A "G'DAY mates" welcome and an "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie - Oi, Oi, Oi" chant ensured the citizenship ceremony at Logan on Friday was as Australian as possible.

Logan Mayor Graham Able said it was a pleasure to welcome 126 new citizens.

Edoh Agbeve, from Togo in West Africa, took the oath with his daughters Justine and Sophie and wife Kafui.

Mr Agbeve, who lives with his family in Woodridge, said he was very happy to become an Australian citizen after two years and four months.

Michael and Barbara Parker, originally from the UK, said they couldn't wait to become citizens.

"We did it as soon as we could," they said.

Senator Russell Trood said many new Australians had waited a long time for this moment. Some had enjoyed an easy passage while for others it had been a great ordeal.

"One thing that defines Australia and makes us who we are as a people and a nation is that we all came here from somewhere else," he said.
