The document, part of a tender process, contains design details of the layout of the new Australian embassy in Baghdad.

The two-storey embassy complex comprises a basement, two apartments, two guard houses, a separate four-level hall and basement and another dozen single-level buildings, including a gym, laundry and storerooms.

"The detail contained in this Request for Proposal is confidential," the document says.

Queensland Liberal senator Russell Trood said the posting was a foolish move that showed disregard for the security of Australians. "Terrorists have made excellent use of the web," Senator Trood said.

In a statement last night, DFAT said the document would not compromise embassy security.
