ABC News -

Queensland Police Minister Neil Roberts has rejected criticism of the level of police resourcing in the Torres Strait.

Mr Roberts was responding to the head of a federal parliamentary committee, Senator Russell Trood, who has called for more law enforcement in the region, in the far north.

Mr Roberts says the Queensland Police Service will benefit from a new $10 million police station on Badu Island and a locally-based aircraft.

"The Queensland Government has significantly enhanced police resources in the Torres Strait - there's a new aircraft that was recently delivered to Horn Island and that aircraft now dramatically improves the capacity to deliver police and respond to issues right across the Torres Strait," he said.
