New Foreign Affairs secretary, Dennis Richardson, seems to have set a new accountability record by appearing last Thursday at the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee for the additional estimates. The committee was thrilled to see him. Liberal Senator Russell Trood said: "I spoke to the secretary of this committee and she said it was the first time in living memory that the secretary of the department had actually attended. So that is a welcome development."
