Attorney-General Robert McClelland has defended the federal government's delay in releasing its national security white paper.
Liberal senator Russell Trood lashed out at Labor earlier this week for not yet publishing the document, saying it was due for release last December.
Mr McClelland is refusing to be pressured into releasing the white paper before it is ready.
"With respect to (Senator Trood), he can blow off all he likes but we will be doing it thoroughly, methodically and it will be solid," he told ABC Radio on Thursday.
Mr McClelland estimated the paper would be finalised towards the end of 2009
