A Queensland Senator has dubbed south-west Queensland as the "forgotten corner" of the state.

Liberal Senator Russell Trood has visited the Diamantina and Barcoo shires and says he is concerned at the lack of infrastructure in the region.

He says significant spending is needed, especially on telecommunications and roads. "There is a desperate need for services in that part of Queensland.

It's a very productive part of Queensland, it's productive [in] relation to the beef industry and the pastoral industry generally - there are of course mining interests there," he said.

"It's very clear that the infrastructure that is needed in the region has not kept pace with development."
