RICHLANDS State School is holding court with the launch of its new sport and recreation facilities.
The school last week opened its new multi-purpose tennis court and playground.
Principal Bec McGuren-Nolan said Senator Russell Trood served the first ball on the new court, which was funded as part of the Federal Government's Investing in our Schools program.
``The initiative gives support directly to schools for items such as air-conditioning, computers and playground equipment,'' she said.
``We have replaced our old wooden playground with three brand new, state-of-the-art playgrounds and a multi-purpose court.
``It will benefit our inter-school sport and it is here just in time for the Smart Moves program which will take effect next year.''
Mrs McGuren-Nolan said the new equipment would help the school tackle the problem of childhood obesity and promote a love of sport and healthy living.
``We have to have a roster (to share its use),'' Mrs McGuren-Nolan said. ``It's been very popular as we do have quite a sporty population.''
