The backers of a combined conservative party in Queensland say they are not deterred by strong opposition from leading Liberals.

Liberal senators George Brandis and Sue Boyce are dead against the one-party idea, as is Russell Trood.

"I don't propose to sit in the Parliament as anything other than a Liberal," Senator Trood said.

The Liberal Party's parliamentary leader Mark McArdle says it is not up to them.

"I am only one person with a voice, so are the senators.

There are thousands out there who are yet to cast their vote," he said.

Meanwhile, Nationals leaders Lawrence Springborg has dismissed accusations that Mr McArdle broke Liberal Party rules by reaching an in-principle agreement with him.

"Maybe those who've spoken out against it have broken party rules," Mr Springborg said.

Mr McArdle says he understands some people will be against the idea.
